lychee

like Plath’s figs

splitting open, split person

jars of them, of us-es, naked on the shelf

my pickled selves spooning each other

elbows in knees in bellies fumbling bruising

dumb mouths gasp-fighting for air

which me is selected which me

brought to open mouth

which one of me dies
